God Bless America

God Bless America
land that I love
stand beside her
and guide her
with the Light
from above
From the mountains
to the prairies
to the oceans
white with foam
God bless America
my home
sweet home

a sweet image of a simpler time. Blessings on you and yours in the pond. I would say happy 4th, however, i just read over Obamas new Rural Heartland Initiative and ...oh never mind, FIsh. You have a happy day.

Hi Fishy, have a great 4th of July! Love the pic, very Americana, and that song lyric just brought a tear to my eye. God bless America! (We need it!)

Happy Fourth!

Yes it is a picture of an America which is not yet lost. There are millions who treasure what this represents! Millions who have a Chickory, an island, a porch, a pond, a desert, an edifice, a garden in the sun who will toil, in our individual ways, to preserve and grow what is good about America.

Pam,
I chose this song because it still raises a lump in my throat every time I hear the very first notes. Indeed we do need God's blessings. Especially since so many seem to be making a huge effort to throw God out of the country.

Blessings on your celebration of America today.

This should be our anthem, I love it. Have a wonderdul day and I'm
hoping maybe your cold watermelon will also have some nice ice cream to go with it?

Have a happy "dead white men" acknowledgement day!

I can't listen to those words without thinking of the Kate Smith rendition (because it was the the theme song for the 1976 Stanley Cup Flyers (the Broad Street Bullies and I live in that part of the world). Happy 4th of July!

Amen!
Fishy, you got it --celebrate the authentic. Lovely post.

I also Like My Country 'Tis of Thee, especially these verses:

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet Freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright
With Freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might
Great God, our King.

Moi,
Ditto!

Boxer,
I think there is a movement for replacing the current anthem with "America the Beautiful".

LOL,
I will have watermelon,
Blowfish will have ice cream.

Troll,
I was hoping for a different focus to my day.

Buzz,
Associations with music are amazingly strong and of long duration. Only in Jersey can you associate "God Bless America" with bullies.

Happy celebrating.

Aunty,
I love this ballad, especially the lyrics in the last verse you included. It is awesome. We actually sang this at mass yesterday. (Well, I lip synched it out of respect for my pew mates.) I wish it was whispered into the ears of all American children every night of their lives.

Blessings on you!
