My favorite verse from the original Doors version:
"Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done,
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun"
Karma:
Mama's boy would sing
"The House of the Rising Sun"
plaintively at five.

I don't think I've ever seen the word plaintively used in a haiku. Good song. Many years ago I saw the Animals in concert (they opened for Styx) and I remember them doing this song, Born to be Wild and Spill the Wind. That's all I remember. Bwahahaha
Buzz,
This is a great song, it is the perfect pace of despondency. And it is definitively plaintive. The best I ever heard until I heard Nora Jones "broke down on the side of the road".
Hope your Monday isn't.
Good morning Fishy,
It's a good song. You fit the lyrics in well.
Enjoy your Monday.
Very nice, Fishy!! The Tori Amos version is great, too. Just one of the all time iconic songs.
It's one of my favorite songs and you moved it into a really lovely Haiku.
Karl.
Thanks and ditto.
Moi,
It gets my short straw every time when I stay at an expensive hotel and there is an additional fee for internet even on my phone! Insanity!
It says a lot this song. I was surprised to see how many versions there are now. All with strong messages/warnings.
Boxer,
Are you packed!!!!!
It tickles me this is also a favorite song of yours. Thanks for the really lovely commentary; although I think the entire blog community would fall over in a faint if you said,
"Fishy this is lousy!"
Travel safely :-)
fishy, this is lousy.
grherhahahahahaha! no it isnt. very nice. good luck and happy HM!
Nearly packed! And if I didn't like it.... I believe I would have not commented? Or made a comment about the lovley visual.

Chickory,
still laughing but not yet faint :-)
OM gracious, it's Monday??
Would that be five in the mornin' time or five years ole?
Very nice Haiku, if sad...the Elvis warble comes to mind:
On a cold ghetto
morn, a boy-thief doan git far
An' his mama cried.
wait...wait now. All y'all is havin' some insider converse here.
Moi's internet in a hotel?
Boxer-babe packin' ( heat or nightie?)?
Yeah, lousy fishy, funny chick9. Heh.
Not lousy in eggy's book :) Love both song and haiku. A fine Haiku Monday to you, fishy!
Good haiku. I can play this. Also, K9's "Voodoo Chile".
